Home: For Our Donors
St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance relies on donations from grocers, manufacturers, distributors, and wholesalers. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, technology is streamlining operations within the food manufacturing industry. Investments in machinery and computer technology will continue as retailers, distributors and wholesalers attempt to remain profitable in a difficult economic situation.
Improved production efficiency results in less waste for supermarkets and retailers but fewer donations for the Food Bank. The Food Bank is looking for organizations to partner with for intentional donations.
Food donors are protected through the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act, also known as the Good Samaritan law, signed on October 1, 1996 by President Bill Clinton. The act protects donors from civil and criminal liability should product donated in good faith later cause harm to the needy recipient. Click here for the complete text of the act.
