With the conclusion of the month of May, so concludes the 2008 National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive. This drive is the largest single food drive donation received by the Food Bank. Now, and in previous years, this food drive contributes an enormous amount of needed food to help the Food Bank during the difficult summer season.
Nationally this year, one of the long-time sponsors of the event increased its efforts to make a serious impact in donations and awareness. The Campbell’s Soup Company partnered with the Kroger Company and its Phoenix affiliate, Fry’s Food & Drug. They placed product displays of Campbell’s soup with an advertisement of the event and collection bags in the aisles of every Fry’s store to encourage shoppers to participate.
More than 460,000 pounds of nonperishable food items were collected from 25 postal stations. Special thanks to the men and women who deliver our mail and for their commitment to help end the hunger problem facing so many Arizonans and others across the country.
Transporting the collected food could not have been done without the expert and efficient help of the Food Bank’s Transportation and Warehouse department staff. Thank you!
We should all take pride in knowing that this National Food Drive started, as food banking did, right here in Phoenix. With this, we should strive each and every day to be an example of what one person can do. Remember, you can make a difference.
