Building Progress Meeting the Challenge Members

After an extensive review of the relationship between poverty and hunger, as well as growth projections for Arizona’s population and the anticipated demand for St. Mary’s services, our Board of Directors concluded that a proactive stance is needed and the identified the following critical needs:

* More nutritious food for school children in families living at or below the poverty level.

* More food distributed more efficiently to more agencies serving the hungry in Arizona, with a special emphasis on rural areas where the largest pockets of poverty exist.

* More training opportunities available for those who want to break the cycle of poverty and hunger.
